FIVE DECREES PROMULGATED AND VOTES FOR CANONIZATION APPROVED

VATICAN CITY - On Monday, 24 February, during an audience granted to His Eminence Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State, and to His Excellency Monsignor Edgar Peña Parra, Substitute for General Affairs of the Secretariat of State, the Holy Father authorized the Dicastery of the Causes of Saints to promulgate decrees regarding:

E.J. Kapaun S. D’Acquisto M. Maura D. Bessi K. Siwiec J.G. Hernández B. Longo

- the offer of life of the Servant of God EMIL JOSEPH KAPAUN, priest of the diocese of Wichita; born in Pilsen, Kansas (United States of America) on 20 April 1916 and died in the Pyŏktong prison camp, North P’yŏngan (North Korea) on 23 May 1951;

-  the offer of life of the Servant of God SALVO D’ACQUISTO, young layperson of the military ordinariate of Italy; born in Naples (Italy) on 15 October 1920 and died in Palidoro, Rome (Italy) on 23 September 1943;

- the heroic virtues of the Servant of God MIQUEL MAURA MONTANER, priest of the diocese of Mallorca; founder of the Congregation of the Zelatrix Sisters of the Eucharist (now part of the Congregation of the Missionary Sisters of the Most Blessed Sacrament and Mary Immaculate); born in Palma de Mallorca, Islas Baleares (Spain) on 6 September 1843, and died there on 9 September 1915;

- the heroic virtues of the Servant of God DIDACO BESSI, priest of the diocese of Prato; founder of the Congregation of the Dominican Sisters of Saint Mary of the Rosary; born in Iolo, Prato (Italy) on 5 February 1856, and died there on 25 May 1919; and,

- the heroic virtues of the Servant of God KUNEGUNDA SIWIEC, layperson of the archdiocese of Kraków and member of the Secular Carmelites; born in Stryszawa, Suski (Poland) on 28 May 1876 and died there on 27 June 1955.

   The Pope has also approved the votes made by the Ordinary Session of the Cardinals and Bishops of the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints in favor of the canonization of

- Blessed JOSÉ GREGORIO HERNÁNDEZ CISEROS, layperson of the archdiocese of Caracas; born in in Isnotú, Trujillo (Venezuela) on 26 October 1864, and died in Caracas (Venezuela) on 29 June 1919; beatified on 30 April 2021;and,

- Blessed BARTOLO LONGO, layperson of the territorial prelature of Pompei; married; member of the Lay Dominicans and founder of the Congregation of the Dominican Sisters of Pompei; born in Latiano, Brindisi (Italy) on 10 February 1841, and died in Pompei, Naples (Italy) on 5 October 1926; beatified on 26 October 1980.

   The Pope has also decided to convene a Consistory which will consider the next canonizations.

SIX DECREES PROMULGATED

VATICAN CITY - Today, 27 January, Pope Francis received His Eminence Cardinal Marcello Semeraro, Prefect of the Dicastery of the Causes of Saints, in a private audience. During the audience, the Holy Father authorized the Dicastery to promulgate decrees regarding:

V.M. Poloni P. de Corpa L. May M.R. Beauchamp Q. Sicuro L. Sinapi

- the miracle attributed to the intercession of Blessed LUIGIA Poloni (in religion: Vincenza Maria), founder of the Institute of the Sisters of Mercy of Verona; born in Verona (Italy) on 26 January 1802 and died there on 11 November 1855; beatified on 21 September 2008;

-  the martyrdom of the Servant of God PEDRO DE CORPA and 4 COMPANIONS, professed members of the Order of Friars Minor; killed in odium fidei in September 1597 in La Florida (now Georgia)(United States of America);

- the martyrdom of the Servant of God FRANÇOIS-BENJAMIN MAY (in religion: LYCARION), professed religious of the Institute of the Marist Brothers of the Schools; born in Bagnes, Valais (Switzerland) on 21 July 1870 and killed in odium fidei in Barcelona (Spain) on 27 July 1909;

- the heroic virtues of the Servant of God CATHERINE BEAUCHAMP HAMBROUGH (in religion: MARIA RICCARDA OF THE MOST PRECIOUS BLOOD), professed religious and abbess general of the Order of the Most Holy Savior of Saint Bridget (Bridgettine Sisters); born in London, England (United Kingdom) on 10 September 1887, and died in Rome (Italy) on 26 June 1966;

- the heroic virtues of the Servant of God QUINTINO SICURO, priest of the diocese of Cesena-Sarsina; hermit; born in Melissano, Lecce (Italy) on 29 May 1920, and died on a path of Mount Fumaiolo near Balze, Verghereto, Forlì-Cesena (Italy) on 26 December 1968; and,

- the heroic virtues of the Servant of God LUIGIA SINAPI, layperson of the diocese of Rome; born in Itri, Latina (Italy) on 8 September 1916 and died in Rome (Italy) on 17 April 1978.
