  1. In Rome (Italy), Saint Hyginus, pope, who was the eighth to occupy the chair of Saint Peter. († 142)

  2. In Africa, Saint Salvius, martyr, about whom Saint Augustine gave a sermon to the people of Carthage on the day of his birth in heaven. († 3rd cent)

  3. In Tigava (now El-Kherba, Algeria), Saint Typasius, martyr. A military veteran recalled to service, he refused to sacrifice to the gods and was beheaded. († c. 297)

  4. In Caesarea in Palestine (now Keisarya, Israel), Saint Peter Apselamus (or Balsamus), martyr. During the reign of Emperor Maximin, he was repeatedly exhorted by the judge and all those present to spare his youth. Deaf to their exhortations, he firmly gave witness to his faith in Christ before the fire, like purest gold. († 309)

  5. In Brindisi (Italy), Saint Leucius, venerated as the first bishop of this city. († 4th cent.)

  6. In Pavia (Italy), the translation of the remains of Saint Honorata, virgin consecrated to God, sister of Saint Epiphanius, bishop of the city. († c. 500)

  7. In the Judean desert, Saint Theodosius the Cenobiarch. A friend of Saint Sabas who, after long years in solitude, welcomed many disciples and made them live together in the monasteries he had built. After suffering a lot for the Catholic faith, he fell asleep in the peace of Christ when he was a hundred years old. († 529)

  8. In Cividale del Friuli (Italy), Saint Paulinus, bishop of Aquileia, who undertook to convert the Avars and the Slavs to the faith. He addressed to Charlemagne a remarkable poem on the rule of faith. († 802)

  9. * In Catania (Italy), Blessed Bernard Scammacca, priest. After a dissolute youth and a duel in which he was seriously wounded, he was converted and entered the Order of Preachers. He never ceased to mourn the faults of his youth through the rigorous observance of the Rule and penance. († 487)

  10. * In London (England), Blessed William Carter, martyr. A married man, he was condemned to death during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I for publishing a treatise on the schism. He was hanged at the gallows at Tyburn and horribly cut to pieces afterwards. († 1584)

  11. * In Yatsushiro (Japan), the Blessed martyrs John Hattori Jingorō and Peter, his son, along with Blesseds Michael Mitsuishi Hikoemon and Thomas, his son, who were beheaded for their faith in Christ. († 1609)  

  12. In Civitella (Italy), Saint Tommaso (Francesco Antonio) Placidi from Cori, professed priest of the Order of Friars Minor, admirable for the austerity of his life and his preaching. († 1729)

  13. *  In Talarn (Spain), Blessed Anna Maria Janer Anglarill, virgin. Animated by a great devotion to the cross of Christ, she founded the Institute of the Sisters of the Holy Family of Urgell, as well as numerous social works for the sick and the disabled. († 1885)

  14. * At the Stutthof concentration camp, in Sztutowo (Poland), Blessed Franciszek Rogaczewski, diocesan priest and martyr. He was shot for the faith during the oppression of Poland under the Nazi regime. († 1940)
