  1. Saint Angela Merici, virgin. At first she took the habit of the Secular Franciscan Order and gathered young women to be trained in works of charity. She then established a female Order under the name of Saint Ursula, to which she entrusted the task of seeking the perfection of life in the world and of educating adolescents in the ways of the Lord. Finally, in Brescia she surrendered her soul to God. († 1540)

  2. In Sora (Italy), the commemoration of Saint Julian, martyr, who suffered martyrdom at the time of Emperor Antoninus Pius. († c. 2nd cent.)

  3. In Le Mans (France), Saint Julian, considered as the first bishop of this city. († 3rd cent.)

  4. * In Biguglia (France), the commemoration of Saint Devota, virgin and martyr. († c. 300)

  5. In the monastery of Bodon (now Saint-May, France), Saint Marius, abbot. († c. 550)

  6. In Rome, at the Basilica of Saint Peter (Italy), the burial of Saint Vitalian, pope, who was particularly concerned with the salvation of the Angles. († 672)

  7. * In Tonnerre (France), the passing of Saint Theodoric, bishop of Orléans, who died while on his way to visit the basilicas of the Apostles. († 1022)

  8. * In Chartres (France), the passing of Saint Gilduin, deacon from Dôle. Elected bishop at a very young age, he refused such a great honor in the presence of Pope Saint Gregory VII, considering himself unworthy. On his return from Rome, assailed by fevers, he ended his earthly pilgrimage. († 1077)

  9. * In Thérouanne (France), Blessed Jean de Warneton, bishop. A canon regular, he occupied the episcopal see of Maurienne for over thirty years. During that time, he fought against simoniacs and founded eight monasteries for both canons and monks. († 1130)

  10. * In Riva San Vitale (Italy), Blessed Manfredo Settala, priest and hermit. († 1217)

  11. * In Angers (France), Blessed Rosalie du Verdier de la Sorinière, nun of the Benedictines of Our Lady of Calvary and martyr. She was condemned to death out of hatred for the Christian faith and guillotined during the French Revolution. († 1794)

  12. * In Pirmasens (Germany), Blessed Paul Josef Nardini, diocesan priest and founder of the Congregation of the Franciscan Sisters of the Holy Family. († 1862)

  13. In Nakaseke (Uganda), the passion of Saint John Mary, known as Muzeyi, that is, “the Elder”. A servant of the king, once he became a Christian he did seek to escape persecution. He spontaneously professed his faith in Christ before the prime minister of King Mwenga and was beheaded, the last victim of that persecution. († 1887)

  14. In Gilet (Spain), Saint Enric de Ossó Cervelló, diocesan priest, who founded the Society of Saint Teresa of Jesus for the formation of girls. Later removed from its direction, he spent the remaining years of his life in a convent of the Order of Friars Minor. († 1896)

  15. * In Kaunas (Lithuania), Blessed Jurgis Matulaitis [Matulevičius], bishop of Vilnius and later Apostolic Nuncio in Lithuania. He was the renovator of the Congregation of the Marians of the Immaculate Conception and founder of the the Congregation of the Poor Sisters of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. († 1927)

  16. * In Cinisi (Italy), Blessed Mary of Jesus (Carolina Santocanale), foundress of the Congregation of the Capuchin Sisters of the Immaculate of Lourdes to heal physical and moral wounds. († 1923)

  17. * In Caxias do Sul (Brazil), Blessed Giovanni Schiavo, priest of the Congregation of Saint Joseph. First in Northern Italy and then in Brazil, he was an attentive educator, gentle with the poor, always smiling, and appreciated for his wise spiritual direction. († 1967)
