for some time in a corner of his paternal house,

of his brother Saint Avitus. After ten years, he
resigned his office and retired to the monastery of
Manlieu. He died in Lyons on his way back from a

priest and martyr. Entering the Cistercian monastery
of Fontfroide, he was commissioned by Pope Innocent
III to establish peace and strengthen the faith in

Francisco Fernández de Capillas, professed priest of
the Order of Preachers and martyr. After bearing the
name of Christ in the Philippines and Southern
China, he was put in prison during the persecution
of the Tartars. Held captive for a long time and
tortured in various ways, he was finally beheaded,
becoming the first martyr of China. († 1648)

Nikolaus Gross, martyr. Father of a family,
he opposed in every way the Nazi regime, oppressor
of human dignity and religion, and refused to do
anything against the commandments of God. He was
therefore thrown into prison and executed by
hanging. († 1945)
