  1. The Memorial of Saint Francis [François] de Sales, bishop of Geneva and Doctor of the Church. A true shepherd of souls, he brought many separated brethren back to the Catholic communion and with his writings he taught Christians true devotion to God. With Saint Jeanne de Chantal, he founded the Order of the Visitation. In Lyons (France), he humbly surrendered his soul to God on 28 December 1621. On this day, he was buried in Annecy (France). († 1622)

  3. In Troyes (France), Saint Sabinian, martyr. († 3rd cent.)

  4. In Syrian Antioch (now Antakya, Türkiye), the passion of Saint Babylas, bishop. During the persecution under Emperor Decius, after he had often glorified God with his sufferings and torments, he gloriously ended his life bound in chains. In these he commanded his body should be buried. It is said that there suffered with him three young men – Urban, Prilidian and Epolonus – whom he had instructed in the faith of Christ. († 250)

  5. In Cingoli (Italy), Saint Exuperantius, bishop. († c. 5th cent.)

  6. * In Binsaco (Italy), Blessed Paola Gambara Costa, widow, who belonged to the Secular Franciscan Order. She distinguished herself for the patience in puttting up with her violent husband until she achieved his conversion, as well as for the exceptional charity she showed towards the poor. († 1515)

  7. * In London (England), the Blessed martyrs William Ireland, professed priest of the Society of Jesus, and John Grove, his servant. During the reign of Charles II, they were falsely accused of sedition and suffered martyrdom at Tyburn for their faith in Christ. († 1679)

  8. * In Sainville (France), Blessed Marie Poussepin, virgin, founder of the Institute of the Dominican Sisters of Charity and of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, to help pastors of souls in the formation of young women and for the assistance of the poor and the sick. († 1744)

  9. * In Pratulin (Poland), Blessed Wincenty Lewoniuk and twelve companions,[1] martyrs. Because they did not give in to either the threats or flattery of those who wanted to separate them from the Catholic Church and refused to hand over the keys to the parish, they were mortally wounded and killed. († 1874)

  10. * In Rome (Italy), Blessed Timoteo (Giuseppe) Giaccardo, professed priest of the Pious Society of Saint Paul, who formed many disciples to proclaim the Gospel through the means of social communication. († 1948)
