whom, four years after the proclamation of the dogma
of the Immaculate Conception, the humble girl Saint
Bernardette Soubirous saw several times at the
Grotto of Massabielle in the Pyrenees, on the bank
of the Gave River, near the town of Lourdes, where
countless crowds of the faithful flock with
devotion. (1858)

Saint Soteris, virgin and martyr, who, as
Saint Ambrose attests, neither obeyed the order to
sacrifice to idols nor let herself be overcome by
humiliating insults, disdaining through faith
the nobility of her lineage and honors. Condemned to
death by being killed with a sword, she did not
abhor death. († c. 304)
