The commemoration of Saint
Alexander, bishop, a glorious old man, full
of zeal for the faith. Having succeeded Saint Peter
as bishop of Alexandria after, he excluded from the
communion of the Church his presbyter Arius,
depraved by heretical impiety and alienated from
divine truth. Later, with 318 Fathers, he condemned
him at the First Council of Nicaea. ( 326)

built up a Church tormented by persecution by the
word of his preaching. ( 4th cent.)

In Gaza (Palestine), Saint
Porphyry, bishop. Born in Thessaloniki, he
lived as an anchorite for five years at Skete and
another five in Transjordan, outstanding in his
kindness towards the poor. Ordained afterwards as
Bishop of Gaza, he tore down many temples dedicated
to idols, whose followers subjected him to severe
harassment, until he finally rested in the peace of
the Saints. ( 421)
