persecution of Emperor Decius, the governor of the
province condemned him to crucifixion, so that as he
confessed the Crucified, so he should suffer the

A shepherd, he went from Spain to Mexico where he
amassed a remarkable fortune through his work which
he used to assist the poor. Having been widowed
twice, he was received as a brother in the Order of
Friars Minor in which he died almost a hundred years

Didacus Yūki Ryōsetsu, professed priest of
the Society of Jesus and martyr. After twenty years
of surreptitious ministry, he was caught and
condemned to die out of hatred for Christ by being
hung upside down to die of suffocation. († 1636)

Domenico Lentini, diocesan priest. Grounded
in a life of humility, prayer and penance, he
exercised a fruitful and varied ministry in his
birthplace until his death. († 1828)

Maria Adeodata (Maria Teresa) Pisani, virgin,
professed nun of the Order of Saint Benedict and
abbess of the Monastery of Saint Peter. Wisely
managing her time, she fulfilled her office while
showing concern for the poor and the abandoned, thus
contributing to the good of the community. († 1855)

Saint Lawrence Bai Xiaoman,
martyr, a recently baptized artisan who preferred to
be flogged and beheaded rather than deny Christ. (†

Ciriaco María Sancha Hervás, Archbishop of
Toledo, who, although a Cardinal of the Holy Roman
Church, lived poorly and was father to the poor. He
founded the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity
bearing his name to provide human and spiritual
warmth to orphans, the abandoned elderly and the
disabled. († 1909)

martyr, who was assassinated during a period of
religious persecution out of hatred for the

Holy martyrs Luigi Versiglia,
bishop, and Callisto Caravario,
priest, professed members of the Salesian Society of
Don Bosco, who suffered martyrdom for giving
Christian assistance to those entrusted to their
pastoral care . († 1930)

Blessed Maria Ludovica (Antonina) De Angelis,
virgin, professed religious of the Congregation of
the Daughters of Our Lady of Mercy. With the heart
of a mother, she gave herself diligently and
generously to the care of children and the sick,
becoming a powerful sign of Godʼs mercy. († 1962)

(India), Blessed Rani Maria
Vattalil, professed religious of the
Franciscan Clarist Congregation and martyr, whose
work to uplift the dignity of the marginalized drew
the hatred of those who ordered her
assassination out of hatred for the justice of
the Kingdom of God. († 1995)
