gardener who, during the reign of the Emperor
Decius, was forced to run in front of a chariot with
nails piercing his feet. Falling to his knees, he
surrendered his spirit while praying to God. († c.

in Rome (Italy), the burial of
Saint Lucius, pope, successor of Saint
Cornelius. He was an excellent confessor of the
faith, having suffered exile for the Christian faith
and faced the difficulties of his time with
admirable moderation and prudence. († 254)

Saint Phocas, martyr, a
gardener who suffered many torments for the sake of
the Redeemer’s name. († c. 4th cent.)

During the persecution of Emperor Diocletian, by
command of the prefect Firmilian, on the day when
the inhabitants of the city celebrated the feast of
the goddess Fortuna of Caesarea, he was first thrown
to a lion and then beheaded with a sword because of
his faith in Christ. († 309)
