  1. In Egypt, Saint Serapion, anchorite . († inc. date)

  2. Commemoration of the Holy Martyrs of Alexandria, who, in the time of Emperor Constantius and the prefect Philagryus, inside churches invaded by Arians and pagans, were killed on Good Friday. († 339)

  3. At Lauconne (now Saint-Lupicin, France), Saint Lupicinus, abbot, who, with his brother Saint Romanus, followed the observance of the monastic life in the Jura mountains. († 480)

  4. * In Ireland, Saint Enda, abbot, who founded on the island of Aran a monastery so famous that, because of its fame, it was called the island of the Saints. († c. 542)

  5. In Montecassino (Italy), the passing of Saint Benedict, abbot, whose memory is celebrated on 11 July. († 547)

  6. In Constantinople (now Istanbul, Türkiye), the passion of Saint James the Confessor, who fought hard for the cult of sacred images and ended his life in glorious martyrdom. († c. 824)

  7. In Valence (France), Saint Jean, bishop, formerly abbot of Bonnevaux, who suffered many adversities in defense of justice and helped with outstanding charity the peasants, the poor and the merchants ruined by debt. († c.1145)

  8. In the mountainous region of Ranft, near Sachseln (Switzerland), Saint Niklaus von Flüe, called by heavenly inspiration to a more perfect state of life, separated from his wife and ten children and went to live on a mountain as an anchorite. Famous for his extreme penance and isolation from the world, he emerged from solitude only once, when, faced with the threat of civil war, he reconciled his adversaries with a brief exhortation. († 1487)

  9. *  In Dorchester (England), Blessed Thomas Pilchard, priest and martyr, a learned and affable man, who, during the reign of Elizabeth I, was condemned to the gallows in hatred of the priesthood. Also commemorated with him is Blessed William Pike, carpenter and martyr, who in the same place and on an unknown day, by order of the same queen, was most cruelly dissected for having reconciled himself with the Roman Church. († 1591)

  10. *   In York (England), Blessed Matthew Flathers, priest and martyr, who, having been a student at the English College of Douai, was torn alive during the reign of James I for his fidelity to Christ. († 1608)

  11. In Sichuan (China), the commemoration of Saint Augustine Zhao Rong, priest and martyr, who, during the persecution, was arrested and killed for the name of Christ on an uncertain spring day. († 1815)

  12. In Ronco Scrivia (Italy), Saint Benedetta Cambiagio Frassinello, who, in agreement with her husband, renounced married life and founded the Institute of the Benedictine Sisters of Providence, for the formation of poor and abandoned young women. († 1858)

  13. * In Atotonilco, near Guadalajara (Mexico), Blessed Miguel Gómez Loza, father of a family and martyr. († 1928)
