John Ogilvie, professed priest of the Society
of Jesus and martyr, who, after several years
devoted to the study of sacred theology while exiled
in different kingdoms of Europe, was ordained priest
and clandestinely returned to his homeland. There he
exercised an intense pastoral activity with his
compatriots, until, arrested and sentenced to death
during the reign of King James I, he attained the
glorious crown of martyrdom on the scaffold. (†
